Who is Lisa Nichols?

My About page answers a bit of the who is Lisa Nichols part.  I’d like to clarify what Straight Talk Social Media does.   I recently recorded this YouTube Live to introduce my channel.  It makes some good points (though I do say so myself!)

Now, I am not the only Lisa Nichols on social media!  (I know, right, hard to believe).  There is a lovely lady who is a speaker, author and coach in the US.  She does fantastic things with her Motivating The Masses company.  Lisa Nichols UKYou may also recognise her as a featured teacher from the book and movie The Secret.

I follow her myself and own her Abundance Now book.  I am always happy to be mistaken for this inspiring “sister from another mister” around the interwebs. So, that is why I am Lisa Nichols UK on my social channels.

Oldies and Newbies

I talk about serving oldies and newbies.  What I mean by this is those of us who were not born in the digital era.  We tend to call anything online “technology”.  My tribe are mainly what is known as Generation X or Gen X’ers.

Generation X, or Gen X, is the demographic cohort following the baby boomers. There are no precise dates for when this cohort starts or ends; demographers and researchers typically use starting birth years ranging from the early-to-mid 1960s and ending birth years ranging from the late 1970s to early 1980s. – Wikipedia

In simple terms this means; if you remember how hot it was on Live Aid day.  Or where you were when you saw the Berlin Wall fall.  Or Reagan and Gorbachev ending the Cold War, watching Dirty Dancing or singing along to Wham! – you’re a GenXer.  And, if your only interest in social media is your Facebook profile, you *may* find this whole digital marketing thing a bit of a faff.

Can’t You Just Do It For Me?

When I speak to friends and fans about promoting their business on social, the conversation usually ends with this sentence.  If you are busy creating, building and running your own small business, marketing is just one more job on your To-Do List.  When you discover there is yet another platform to learn.  When the one you’ve sort of got the hang of has changed, it can be frustrating and overwhelming.  I do this all day every day, and I can barely keep up, so I know how you feel.

Uneasy Marriage

You would think the constant shifting sands in online marketing would be a godsend to freelance social media managers.  And to some, it is.  But my best collaborations have been with clients who understand the digital landscape.  They are clear on their business goals and realise the need to allocate a consistent budget to maximise their results.

So that is my goal.  To educate my tribe sufficiently for them to either do it themselves or stay in their zone of genius and outsource it to a professional.  That way, both client and professional feel good about the collaboration and great things are achieved.

Also, I’m too long-in-the tooth to start working with any wonkers!

So, if this sounds like you, and you would like a basic understanding of the things that seem overwhelming or daunting, stick with me pal: We’ll push those scary buttons together.
